Charlotte sketch

Here's a composition sketch of Charlotte that I will turn into an oil painting when I am satisfied with the drawing. Just want to make sure everything is right in the likeness of Charlotte. More work on the eyes and nose, plus the arm still has to come down a tad.

Ashleigh at the Beach

Study of granddaughter Ashleigh

Ashleigh at the Sugar Shack

I did this painting Spring 2013 and had it on my wall in Florida. When we needed the air conditioning man visit to check the unit, he saw the painting and asked if he could have a closer look. He stood in front of it for a few minutes. I asked him if he was from a cold area of the U.S. He said yes and that he loved the feeling of being back home in Chicago by looking at my painting.

Lakewood Ranch Golf Club House, Myakka and two granddaughters

A few paintings from 2013
This post is really messed up. The first one is a painting of the club house here in Sarasota.

The following painting is one depicting Myakka State park featuring a couple of canoe enthusiasts taking to the water.

This one is a study of granddaughters:

Underpainting value study

Here is another example of an underpainting value study: John Pototschnik does a good description and example of underpainting value studies. Be sure to check out his blog. www.pototschnik.com/the-importance-of-accurate-values

Underpainting value study

This method took away a lot of decision making since all the values were already put down. Here is the finished scene:

Underpainting value study

I have recently been experimenting with a value scale monochrome underpainting. When the underpainting is complete all the values are there, so then all that is left to do is pile on the paint. Here is an example:
