Here's a painting from a few years ago (I forgot to press "publish" so it was sitting awaiting an action)

Southern Atelier

STUDIES AT THE SOUTHERN ATELIER

Recently attended Southern Atelier in Sarasota. The atelier is run by Charles Miano, an excellent teacher and painter. Here are a few of the drawings, we did the grisaille method which means painting in a gray tone before adding colour.

This one only took 40 minutes, I was pleased it turned out this well. There was only 40 minutes left in the class so it was either leave early or do another drawing. I look forward to next season when I plan to spend more time at the atelier.

More work at the Atelier (2017)

I joined the still life group at the Atelier taught by Susan Foster, a very talented painter.... We have another week to work on this one. Susan has the artist do a 20 minute painting prior to beginning the longer study. Mine was sketched in with big shapes and colour that I thought would work. The girl next to me turned out a fabulous 20 minute sketch. These were done on 8 x 10 boards. We then had to erase our quick sketch. Mine was nothing lost in erasing it, but the girl next to me who had done this wonderful sketch made me think that "what she erased I will probably have to work extremely hard in the next couple of years to get to her level." Imagine !!!  Later, a few artists popped around to look at our easels and admire the more longer studies.
The following still life was a lesson on brass as the focus. I joined Patricia Sorg's class a very talented painter.
